That Thing

What’s up, Fear Fighters? Hope everyone is doing well on this beautiful Thursday. If you’re having a rather bland day, just remember that the weekend is almost here. While we’re waiting though, it’s time to handle business and what better way to do so than to conquer another fear.

Have you ever felt really good? Like on top of the world good? Nothing can bring you down good? It’s amazing isn’t it? For a second, you think… no, you KNOW that this feeling is too good not to last? Well unfortunately, it doesn’t because moments like these are always fleeting. You see, the logic of life is that if you have a really great trip, a terrible one is sure to follow. Pretty sucky chain of events I know. We can ask ourselves why it’s like that or we can find the quickest way to get back to where we started.

Finding a quick fix is something we all do at some point, whether we want to admit it or not. However, not all these fixes are good ones. Even if they seem like they might be, there’s a chance that the effect won’t be long lasting. It’s that one thing that we swear is gonna be worth it but isn’t. That one thing that we have to do because it’s going to solve all our problems is really working to do the exact opposite. This is often known as a temptation. On a day to day basis, I face being tempted. Sometimes it’s a little thing that doesn’t really cause much damage like getting ready for work a little later than usual so that I’ve got more time to binge watch my favorite show. Sometimes it’s more serious like giving up. It’s like I know what I should do but that little devil on my shoulder gets pretty convincing.

Bottom line: Dealing with temptation is tough. If you do fear falling under its spell, here are some ways that might help resist your urges:

  1. Think Of The 3 R’s- In a previous post, I mentioned the 3 R’s I use to help me deal with control. If you feel that you’re about to lose control over your situation, take a deep breath and go back to those steps.
  2. Find A Person You Trust- We can find ourselves being really stubborn and closed off at all the wrong moments. In reality, we can’t fight every battle on our own. So, when you find yourself not being able to be as tough as you normally are, ask for that helping hand and don’t you dare be ashamed about it. Tell someone what’s going on and when you’re feeling down, trust that they’ll pick you back up.
  3. Direct The Urge Elsewhere- Play it smart. You might want to spend all your time and energy going after this certain temptation. It just keeps popping up in your head. How do you stop thinking about it? You have to think about something else. You have to give your energy to something else. A hobby, a chore, etc. Find something positive to do and use it to your advantage.

Until next time, Stay Fearless and Keep Fighting guys! 💚

  1. What a great message to share here. There are a great many vices that we can shed, and we all have our own battles. Thanks for the encouragement, and for this post!
